Project: Doomed, Doomed, All Doomed
Client: Francis Upritchard/Artspace
Date: February 2005
Designer: James Goggin
I've long admired London-based New Zealand artist Francis Upritchard's work and was fortunate enough to get to know her while designing the File Note for her Camden Arts Centre residency in early 2004. For her recent solo show at Auckland's Artspace we worked on a small A5 booklet with oversized cover.
I visited Artspace many times while living in Auckland during 2001–2002 and always liked the fact that not only did their identity employ Berthold Wolpe's 1940 chisel-cut classic Albertus, but the newsagents across the road did too. Artspace now has a new logo set in Akzidenz, so this seemed like a good reason to typeset the booklet in their old font, along with the fact that it suited both Francis's work and writer J.J. King's literary text.
